Is a battery worth it?
Simulate a home battery over the last 12 months with real day-ahead prices: charge from midday surplus, discharge into the evening. Uses your connected system's real production, or a PVGIS model.
How we calculate
Every hour of the last 12 months: production (your system's measured hours, or PVGIS shape × kWp), a generic household consumption profile scaled to your monthly kWh, and the real day-ahead price of that hour.
Dispatch: surplus charges the battery (capped by capacity and daily cycles); deficit discharges it with round-trip losses. What went into the battery is valued at that hour's market price (what injecting it would have earned — negative hours make charging a gain); what came out is valued at your tariff.
Payback = (price − voucher) ÷ net annual benefit. Battery degradation, standby losses, tariff changes and the injection settlement terms of your contract are not modelled.
An estimate to frame the decision, not financial advice. Offers and tariffs change; check them with your supplier and installer.
